Jolly Tumuhiirwe, the 22-year-old maid who physically assaulted 18-month old baby, Arnella Kamanzi , is speaking out about why she committed the heinous act. Tumuhiirwe, who is currently in prison, and facing attempted murder charges, is asking the world to forgive her for the incident, and revealed that reason why she beat Kamanzi is that she was frustrated because her bosses wouldn’t give her money, and that they accused of her of things she hadn’t done, Ugandaonline.net reports. Riot Breaks Out in Lekki as Bus Drivers, Others Clash with “Okada” Riders

There was pandemonium at Lekki Phase 1, Lagos this morning, as a riot broke out in which bus drivers, some other unidentified parties, and “Okada” (commercial motorcycle riders) clashed, leaving many people injured. Pulse.ng reports that rioters were armed with machetes and other weapons. They blocked the entrance to the estate, resulting in heavy traffic along Lekki expressaway. Continue...

Corruption Allegation: You lied, Senate hits back at Obasanjo

The Senate yesterday tackled former president, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo over his allegation that the National Assembly was using constituency projects to siphon public funds, saying the former president was out to denigrate the sanctity of the parliament. The Senate also claimed that it was Obasanjo’s administration which approved that the constituency projects be built into the national budget which was executed by the executive and challenged Obasanjo to furnish Nigerians with details of how the National Assembly members became executors of the national budget, rather than being law makers. Obama plan to 'Power Africa' gets off to a dim start

Barack Obama last year told a cheering crowd in Cape Town that a $7 billion plan to "Power Africa" would double electricity output on the world's poorest continent and bring "light where currently there is darkness". A year later, the U.S. president's flagship project for Africa has already achieved 25 percent of its goal to deliver 10,000 megawatts of electricity and bring light to 20 million households and businesses, according to its annual report. According to a report from  Punch , 63 senators our of 109 members of the Senate on Thursday signed up for the impeachment plan. One of the senators reportedly showed Punch reporters the list containing the senators’ signatures. The source also claimed that eight People’s Democratic Party (PDP) senators were signatories. Also, an APC senator is said to have told journalists that “the lawmakers’ major grouse was the President’s poor handling of the economy and political affairs of the country.”

Former Minister of Information and Communications, late Dora Akunyili’sdaughter, Njideka Akunyili-Crosby, has won the Smithsonian American Art Museum’s 2014 James Dicke Prize. Crosby, 32, is a mixed-media artist. The prestigious award “recognizes an artist younger than 50 who has produced a significant body of work and consistently demonstrates exceptional creativity,” Art News reports.

Her agent said she died "peacefully at her home in Oxford" on Thursday morning. The author's books, many featuring sleuth Adam Dalgliesh, sold millions of books around the world, with various adaptations for television and film. Her best known novels include The Children of Men, The Murder Room and Pride and Prejudice spin-off Death Comes to Pemberley. "With old age, it becomes very difficult. It takes longer for the inspiration to come, but the thing about being a writer is that you need to write," she said. "I hope I would know myself whether a book was worth publishing. I think while I am alive, I shall write. There will be a time to stop writing but that will probably be when I come to a stop, too."
