N1.3b for power sector training

                           The National Economic Council (NEC) approved yesterday N1.3 billion for financing manpower development and training of 3,700 trainees under the National Power Sector Apprenticeship Scheme (NAPSAS). The cash will come from the Federal Ministry of Power Intervention Fund The NEC comprises the 36 governors, Chief Economic Adviser, Central Bank Governor, Solicitor-General and Vice President Namadi Sambo (the chairman). Paul Walker judge sentences teen to six months in jail for stealing piece of wreckage from scene of death crash

                     A teenager who stole a rooftop panel from the wrecked Porsche of actor Paul Walker, soon after the "Fast and Furious" star was killed in a crash, was sentenced on Thursday to six months in jail, a spokesman for prosecutors said. Jameson Brooks Witty, 18, who is one of two people arrested for taking the car part, pleaded guilty this month to grand theft of property, destroying evidence and obstructing a peace officer, said a statement from the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office. The car owners, many of them from Qatar, Saudi Arabia, UAE and Kuwait, will happily pay a small fortune - in excess of £20,000 for a return journey - for their metal marvels to be flown around 3,000 miles, and often leave them parked up on the streets of Knightsbridge. Qatar Airways is one such airline that ships the luxury cars from Doha to Heathrow. Secured to the floor of one of their Airbus A330s, the precious cargo can either be accommodated in a single row or in a side-by-side configuration.                         A fuel tanker is currently on fire at Ogere junction along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway, causing heavy vehicular traffic on the road. Fortunately no lives or vehicles were lost in the inferno. Calling on FRSC officials to move to the scene and manage the situation.  See more pics after the cut...

OOU students on massive protest this morning, destroy property - (Photos)

                         Students of the Olabisi Onabanjo University, OOU, are currently protesting in the state, demanding a reduction in their school fees. The students have barricaded the Presidential boulevard, the route leading to the office of Governor Ibikunle Amosun, saying they will not leave until the governor, who is said to be on his way to his office, addresses them. The students were reportedly shot at and tear-gassed by soldiers this morning as they marched to the Governors office. Continue...

Breaking News:Boko Haram abducts 100 young men in Borno

                    There were indications on Thursday that members of the terrorist Islamic sect, Boko Haram, might have abducted about 100 young men from Doron Baga, a community in Borno State. There were fears also that the abducted young men were being forcefully conscripted by the insurgents. The victims were seized from Doron Baga during an attack, on Sunday, on the village, where at least 10 persons were allegedly killed. Continue...
