Navy uncovers hotel where fuel is siphoned in Lagos

Operatives of the Nigerian Navy (NN) attached to the Operation Awatse yesterday busted a Lagos hotel where Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) is siphoned from the pipeline of Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC). The operatives also arrested eight suspects including a Police Inspector at the premises of Glonik Hotel at 31, Social Club Road, Abule Egba. Those arrested were Inspector Lukeman Rabiu of the Lagos Police Command X-Squad Unit, receptionist Gladys Daniel, waitress Rachael Oludara, housekeeper, Adegoke Adetunji, tanker driver, Waliu Teller, Oluwaseun Oguntoyin, Victor Vincent, 19 and Bobola Kuti, 28. Inspector Rabiu allegedly had N1.4 million, a laptop and other valuables in his car. Sources said some police officers were already lobbying for Inspector Rabiu’s release.

Charly-Boy demands N500m damages from police for alleged rights violation

Charles Oputa, popularly known as Charly-Boy or Area-Fada, on Wednesday filed a suit at the FCT High Court, Maitama, against the Commissioner of Police in FCT for alleged violation of his rights. Oputa is demanding the enforcement of his fundamental rights pursuant to Sections 34, 39, and 40 and 46 (1) of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended). Mr. Oputa through his counsel, Mr Inibehe Effiong, is also seeking the order of the court compelling the respondent (Nigeria Police Force) to pay him N100 million as general damages. He is also asking for an order directing, the respondent to pay him N 400 million as exemplary damages.The group had demanded that President Muhammadu Buhari return from his medical leave in London to resume work or resign.

Sergio Aguero Out Till December, says Team Doctor

Manchester City Striker Sergio Aguero is likely to be out of action till the last month of the year, this, a doctor of the Argentina national team has hinted. Recall that Aguero is injued. He broke his rib in a car crash while returning home from a concert in Amsterdam last Thursday. Consequently he missed his side’s 1-0 victory at Chelsea the following weekend. After carrying out assessments of Aguero’s injury, City were hopeful that he would only be out of contention for two to four weeks. He is going to be out for a month-and-a-half – minimum. He is unable to leave his house, or get in or out of the car. He was feeling very bad because he wanted to be here.” A six-week layoff would see Aguero miss City’s home and away Champions League meetings with Napoli and the visit of Arsenal to the Etihad Stadium on 5 November.

Bayelsa investigates suspected outbreak of monkeypox virus

The Bayelsa Government is investigating suspected cases of monkeypox outbreak in its communities, the Commissioner for Health, Prof. Ebitimitula Etebu, has said. Etebu spoke in Yenagoa on Wednesday following reports that some 11 persons, including a medical doctor, had been placed on surveillance in Yenagoa. Those with the suspected cases had been quarantined at the Niger Delta University Teaching Hospital ( NDUTH ) , Okolobiri, Yenagoa Local Government Area. “The disease has an incubation period and it is also self-limiting in the sense that within two to four weeks, you get healed and it confers you with immunity for life. “We have mobilised virtually every arsenal at our disposal in terms of sensitising the general public and making them aware by radio programmes, jingles and fliers. “So the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control has mobilised fully to Bayelsa State. We are on top the situation.” Etebu said.

No need for too much talk – Mikel Obi

Super Eagles’ captain Mikel Obi said on Wednesday that the Nigerian national team players have no need to say too much before Saturday’s 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifying match against Zambia’s Chipolopolo. Mikel Obi, said in Uyo at a reception held for the team by Akwa Ibom Governor, Udom Emmanuel, that the players know what is at stake and ready to give their best. Zambia last victory against Nigeria in a competitive football match at senior level was 32 years ago. The two teams have played 18 matches in all, with the Eagles winning seven and Zambia winning five, with six draws. This is only the second FIFA World Cup qualifying match between the two teams. The first leg of the 2018 world cup qualifiers was won by the Eagles 2-1 in Ndola last year.
