           An explosion has occurred at Federal College of Education in Kano. Vanguard reports that gunmen also fired shots sporadically on the college campus. Armed security personnel were reportedly heading to the college. More details soon.

Ohakim: Why Okigwe Should Produce Imo Governor

                        Against the background of the clamour by leaders of the Owerri senatorial district that the zone should produce the next governor of Imo State, a former governor of the state, Mr. Ikedi Ohakim, yesterday said it would be in the best interest of the state for his district, Okigwe, to produce the governor. Ohakim, in a press statement said the panacea for political harmony in the state is for Okigwe to be allowed to do another four years which he was denied after the 2011 governorship election. Ebola: 340 Cases Under Surveillance in Rivers State

                        The Rivers Commissioner for Health, Sampson Parker, on Wednesday said there were 340 Ebola Virus disease (EVD) cases under surveillance in the state. Parker made the remark in Port Harcourt during a sensitization workshop at Ogu, in Ogu/Bolo local government area. He said the state government was not in a hurry to reopen primary and secondary schools because of the situation. Parker stressed that government would announce a date for re-opening of public schools after assessing the situation in the next few weeks. Continue...

Crisis Looms as NNPC, DPR Workers Begin Strike over pension issues

                          Indications that the nation may be heading for another round of fuel scarcity emerged yesterday as all four of the nation’s refineries were shut down as workers of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) embarked on an industrial action. It was learnt that the four refineries located in Kaduna, Port Harcourt and Warri, were shut down yesterday as the strike began. Similarly, all the 23 depots operated by the Pipelines and Products Marketing Company (PPMC), a subsidiary of NNPC, throughout the country, were shut down in the early hours of yesterday.

FG defends $9.3m cash seized in S-Africa, releases data on transaction -

                      The Federal Government yesterday opened diplomatic discussions with South African authorities on the seizure of $9.3m illegally imported by two Nigerians and an Israeli citizen to purchase arms on behalf of Nigerian security services. The Nigerian government insisted that the deal was legal.
