Game of Thrones sets ratings record for Sky Atlantic

The season five premiere of Game of Thrones has set a new ratings record for Sky Atlantic, with 1.57m tuning in live - a 6.7% share of the audience. Monday night's opener was just behind Channel 4 and beat terrestrial channels BBC Two and Channel 5 in the ratings. BBC Two's Inside Harley Street was watched by 1.3m (5.8%) while Gotham attracted 800,000 (3.4%) to Channel 5. The eagerly-awaited return of HBO fantasy drama Game of Thrones was up 29% on last year's season four launch. Continue...

INEC declares Abia state election inconclusive

The Governorship election in Abia state has been declared inconclusive by the state Returning Officer, Prof Benjamin Ozumba. Prof Ozumba while briefing newsmen in Umuahia, the state capital today, said irregularities in the number of registered voters in areas where elections were cancelled or did not hold was higher than the margin of difference between the leading candidates of the PDP and the All Progressive Grand Alliance in the election. Naira loses N3 against dollar at Bureaux De Change

The value of the Naira yesterday depreciated against the dollar by N3, to close at N208 at the Bureau De Change (BDC) from the N205 it sold for on Friday. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the development was an appreciation following the N224 it sold for before the March 28 presidential election. The Naira, however, at the  black market, remained stable at N206 to the dollar since Friday. The currency traded against the pound at N301.50k at the BDCs and the black market, respectively. The Naira also exchanged for the Euro at N228, from the N230 it traded for on Friday. Meanwhile, the official rate is still N197 to the dollar at the Central Bank of Nigeria.

Buhari’ll reduce petrol to N40/L —David-West

Buhari FORMER Minister of Petroleum and Energy, Prof. Tamunoemi David-West, said that Nigerians should expect sharp drop in petrol price from the current N87 to about N40 per litre, saying, “the president-elect, Gen. Mohammed Buhari, will reduce the fuel pump price to N40 per litre.” The major assignment of the president-elect when he is eventually inaugurated is to restore confidence to the industry. London judge adjourns Ibori’s case to June 6, 2016

Judge Anthony Pitts of the Southwark Crown Court, UK, yesterday, adjourned the confiscation hearing of Chief James Ibori, former Delta State Governor, till June 6 next year. Judge Pitts granted the adjournment to allow him time attend to a case of attempt to pervert the course of justice brought against Ibori’s co-defendant, Mr. Bradresh Gohil. Gohil’s counsel alleged in court, at the hearing yesterday, that a British Police Officer, Mcdonald, who is a lead investigating officer in the case involving Gohil and Ibori, had been involved in collecting money for information involving Gohil and Risk Management company.  Vanguard  reports.
