Funke Akindele threatens to sue Linda Ikeji

Funke Akindele, has threatened to sue Nigerian blogger, Linda Ikeji. Ms. Akindele has asked Ms. Ikeji to retract and apologise within 24 hours for a post on Ms. Ikeji’s blog published on January 25, titled, Did Funke Akindele shade Toyin Aimakhu last night? In the post, Ms. Ikeji suggested that an Instagram picture on Ms. Akindele’s page was intended as a slight on fellow actress, Ms. Aimakhu, who was recently rumoured to have separated from her husband, Adeniyi Johnson. According to Ms. Ikeji, the two actresses had previously fallen out and Ms. Aimakhu had “shaded” Ms. Akindele over the latter’s 2014 divorce. Continue...

U.S. blocks Israeli arms deal with Nigeria

Citing human rights abuses and widespread corruption in nixing helicopter sale, the United States has reportedly vetoed a 2014 arms sale of US-made Cobra helicopters by Israel to Nigeria. Though the resale of decommissioned gunships was approved by Israel’s Defence Ministry, Washington stopped the deal over concerns that the Nigerian government was not doing enough to avoid civilian casualties in its ongoing fight with Boko Haram, Israeli newspaper Haaretz reported yesterday. Good news! Nollywood diva, Toyin Aimakhu and her husband Adewale Johnson are back together. The social media was awashed with rumour that the 17 months old marriage had hit the rock at the weekend. The couple seems to have overcome the challenge as Toyin took to her instagram page to tell all that they are back in each other’s arms. Her husband re-possted it immediately. NNPC to Eliminate Illicit Kerosene Trade with New Scheme

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has said that its deployment of a new direct-sales scheme termed ‘kero-correct’ in the sale of household kerosene to domestic consumers would finally put an end to the operation of ‘black marketers’ of the product across the country. The corporation’s Group Managing Director, Dr. Joseph Dahwa, said at the inauguration of the scheme in Abuja that while it aims to sell kerosene to domestic consumers at a subsidised price of N50 per litre and at a 25 -kilogramme quantity per consumer, the deployment of independent observers is expected to guarantee transparency in the operations of the scheme. Konga Now Most Visited Nigerian Site

One of Nigeria’s largest online shopping sites, Konga.com, has been ranked as the most visited website in Nigeria in the latest Alexa rankings. This puts Konga.com ahead of the widely read Nairaland forum, the Linda Ikeji blog and other e-commerce players in Nigeria today, according to Business Week. Konga is ranked at number 8 on Alexa.com and number 7 on Similar web. The only companies ahead of Konga in the rankings are international websites and social media companies such as Google, Facebook and Twitter. The recent data on Alexa and Similar web shows that engagement and time spent on Konga.com is 50 per cent more than that of its closest e-commerce competitors. Konga also appears to enjoy more time spent on the site by customers with lower bounce rates. Nigeria's Boko Haram unrest: African leaders urged to act

African states should act quickly and collectively to curb the growing threat posed by Nigeria's militant Islamists, the African Union chief has said. Cross-border raids into Cameroon showed the dangers the Boko Haram group posed, Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma said. Nigeria has rejected AU or UN intervention, saying regional armies are capable of dealing with the threat. Its troops repelled a new attack by Boko Haram on the key north-eastern city of Maiduguri on Sunday night. Ebola crisis: Oxfam calls for recovery Marshall Plan

Oxfam has called for a multi-million dollar Marshall Plan-type scheme to help the three West Africa countries worst affected by Ebola to recover. More than 8,500 people have died in the outbreak, the vast majority in Sierra Leone, Guinea and Liberia. Oxfam GB chief executive Mark Goldring said: "The world cannot walk away now that, thankfully, cases of this deadly disease are dropping."
