Frontiers Online Newspaper Editor, Daniel Idonor, dies

The management of Frontiers newspapers online has announced the death of their Executive Editor, Daniel Idonor. In a statement on Tuesday by its Managing Editor, Horatius Egua, the newspaper said Mr. Idonor died on Monday in Abuja after a protracted illness.

BREAKING: EFCC declares ex-Adamawa Governor, Murtala Nyako, son, wanted

A former governor of Adamawa State, Murtala Nyako, has been declared wanted by the anti- graft agency, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission [EFCC]. Also wanted by the EFCC is the son of the ex-governor, Abdul Aziz Murtala Nyako, a retired Naval officer. Both are wanted in a case of criminal conspiracy, stealing, abuse of office and money laundering. The EFCC had in June 2014, shortly before the former governor was impeached, frozen the bank accounts belonging to the state government in what it then called a precautionary measure to safeguard the state treasury amidst evidence of looting uncovered by its operatives. Nigerian entrepreneur, Taofik Okoya, has created Nigerian dolls that are outselling the Barbie doll, the UK Daily Mail is reporting. The paper said according to Reuters, 9,000 units of the £4.50 (N1,280) dolls are sold per month, taking up 15 per cent of Nigeria's toy market. Continue...

Murdered pilot's mother collapses and father demands 'annihilation of ISIS' - as Jordan hangs two jihadists in revenge for horror execution video

The mother of the Jordanian pilot burned alive by the Islamic State has reportedly been admitted to hospital hours after horrific video of her son's death emerged. Issaf al-Kasasbeh is believed to have fainted after learning that her son, Moaz, had suffered such a barbaric killing, according to Jordanian media. Dr Ali Hamiada, the director of Karak Hospital in Jordan, said her condition was stable. News of her illness came as her husband Safi al-Kasasbeh demanded a swift and brutal retaliation to his son's murder. Continue...

Scientific Report Records 2014 as Hottest Year Since 1880

         The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) said on Tuesday that research conducted by two U.S. agencies had recored 2014 as the hottest year since 1880. The NEMA Director-General, Alhaji Muhammad Sani-Sidi, made this known on Tuesday in Abuja during a stakeholders platform for Disaster Risk Reduction. The two-day stakeholders platform was organised by NEMA in preparation for the United Nations World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction scheduled to hold in March at Sendai, Japan. Sani-Sidi, who was represented by Alhassan Nuhu, NEMA’s Director, Risk Reduction, identified the agencies as the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). Director-General, Buhari Presidential Campaign organisation, Governor Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State, has accused some church leaders of taking N6 billion bribe from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to campaign against the presidential candidate of All Progressives Congress, APC, General Muhammadu Buhari (rtd). Governor Amaechi, at APC’s governorship campaign rally yesterday, in Emohua Local Government Area, Rivers State, said already, the religious leaders were allegedly distributing leaflets all over that Buhari had plans to Islamize the country if elected. APC, Buhari warn of fresh plots to stop electionsm

The All Progressives Congress, APC, yesterday alleged new plans by the presidency and the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to scuttle the forthcoming elections using the National Council of State. The charge came as the APC presidential candidate, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (rtd), in a separate charge, accused the PDP of working in cahoots with the presidency to re-enact a political impasse similar to June 12, 1993 election. The APC National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, at a press conference in Lagos alleged that the Presidency had commenced a desperate lobby of members of the National Council of State to move the body to push for the postponement of the election. IMF gives Kenya $700m insurance loan

The International Monetary Fund has agreed to make loans of around $700m (£460m) available to Kenya. The money will be used as an insurance policy to protect against any threats to the country's economy, considered a financial powerhouse in East Africa. The Kenyan government requested the package as a precautionary measure, in case of an emergency such as a natural disaster or militant attack. The funds will be available for the next 12 months.

Chad troops join Nigeria battle

Chadian troops have entered Nigeria to join the battle against militant Islamist group Boko Haram. Armoured vehicles and infantry crossed a bridge from Cameroon following air strikes and mortar attacks on Boko Haram positions, officials say. Fighting focused on the key north-eastern town of Gamboru, Nigerian security spokesman Mike Omeri said. Chad's deepening involvement shows how the conflict with Boko Haram is taking a regional dimension. Last week, Chadian troops reportedly moved into Malumfatori, a Nigerian town which lies near the borders of Chad and Niger, after a ground and air assault against the militants. Continue...
