Nollywood actress Angela Okorie has defended herself after recent reports that she was arrested for theft in South Africa where she has gone to shoot a movie with actor Prince Ekeh. Angela says that Prince Ekeh was the mastermind behind her arrest because she refused s*xual advances from the actor’s friend, Prosper. Nigeria is preparing a special development plan for its poor, violence-hit northeast and increasing spending to counter an Islamist revolt there that could dent growth in Africa's No. 1 oil producer if it worsens, the country's finance minister said. Finance Minister Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala told Reuters that although the impact of the five-year Boko Haram insurgency had cut half a percentage point off Nigeria's GDP last year, she believed it could be contained and insisted the country was not facing a wider conflict as it heads for elections next year. "There is no war ... there is an insurgency," Okonjo-Iweala said in an interview conducted on Sunday in her car in Abuja as she headed to the airport to fly to New York. "We are not in a Colombia situation," she added, rejecting comparisons with the Latin American energy producer which has battled for decades with a major left-wing insurgency that often affected large swathes of its national territory. Residents of Olufowobi Street, Ketu, Lagos, were thrown into confusion after an eight-year-old girl, Amarachi Abakwam, was found tied up and brutalised under the bed of a policeman attached to Police Mobile Force 22. PUNCH Metro learnt that the policeman, Augustine Gbuchenge, with Force number 400823, lived in the same compound with Amarachi’s family. The release of the Nigerian civil war film “Half of a Yellow Sun”, which had been set to open in cinemas nationwide on Friday, has been postponed by the country’s censorship board. The film based on the eponymous best-selling novel by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie is about the 1967-1970 Biafra War which killed more than a million people, many from starvation. A statement on the film’s website said the Nigeria release has been “postponed to May 2 due to delays in getting certification Nigeria Film and Video Censorship Board”. Board spokesman Caesar Kagho told AFP there were “regulatory issues” with the release, but that the film had not been “officially banned”. He said the board would issue further details later on Friday. It was not clear if the certification delay was linked to film’s content. -
