Applicant docked over fake naira notes

                                                                                             
An applicant, Chikezie Chukwu, was on Thursday arraigned for allegedly being in possession of fake naira notes and the theft of N70,000.
Chukwu, 20, was arraigned in an Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates' Court in Lagos on a four-count -charge bordering on obtaining under false pretence, stealing and being in possession of fake notes.
The court is presided over by Magistrate M.O. Olajuwon.
The Investigating Police Officer, Adewunmi Oderinmade, told the court that the offences were committed on Aug. 22, at 2nd junction Road, Ikotun.

Oderinmade told the court that Chukwu purchased goods valued at N70,000 from one Esther Ojetokun and paid her with fake naira notes.
He further said that the accused could not give satisfactory reasons about the fake notes in his possession after his arrest.
The offences, he said, contravened Sections 285, 312, 370 and 409 of the Lagos State of Nigeria, 2011.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 285 prescribes seven years imprisonment, 409 stipulates two years while 312 prescribes 15 years jail term for offenders.
Chukwu, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Olajuwon granted the accused bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum and adjourned the case till Sept. 28 for mention.
