15 Year Old Fish Seller & Aspiring Lawyer Killed During Lekki Robbery Buried in Lagos
Sarah Ibikunle, 15, had dreams of becoming a lawyer one day. But those dreams were cut short on Wednesday March 12th, after she was hit by stray bullets shot by robbers during a robbery in Lekki.
Ibikunle, who was a fish hawker and Primary 3 student of Itedo Primary School, was laid to rest at Ikoyi Cemetery on Monday, Punch reports.
All who knew her described her as a patient and kind individual.
“She was quite brilliant; not troublesome, accommodating and friendly. Her death is very painful,” said her class teacher, Adebayo Moses.
Matron of the school, Dorcas Ogundare, said “The last day she was in school, she came a bit late and I joked with her that she would wash toilets. She just smiled and I told her to rush to the class. She was a child to all of us and had a bright future.”
When Ibikunle’s body was first deposited at a mortuary in Yaba, the facility initially requested a sum of N100,000 for to embalm the corpse and make burial arrangements. However, the management eventually revoked its decision on Monday and the body for burial without collecting any fee.
A pastor, had reportedly donated N100,000 to the deceased’s family when they made an appeal for funds via publications.
“It was published that we needed N100,000 to collect Sarah’s corpse, a pastor came and gave us the money. I also thank people who have been coming to sympathise with us. This kind of incident shall not be your portion,” said Sarah’s aunt, Omolafe.
