This year is definitely a great one for Lupita Nyong’o.

The 2014 Academy Award winner has just been named as the Most Beautiful Woman in the world by People magazine as she covers the publication’s latest edition.

The Hollywood actress who shot to limelight after her impressive performance in Steve McQueen’s 12 Years A Slave, has already graced the cover of many top-notch magazines including Vogue, W magazine,Vanity Fair, Marie Claire, among others.

Speaking about the cover, Lupita says: “It was exciting and just a major, major compliment…I was happy for all the girls who would see me on [it] and feel a little more seen.”

Although she’s obviously gorgeous inside and out today, she wasn’t always so self-confident. As a little girl growing up in Kenya, Lupita thought the people she saw on TV were beautiful, not her.

“Light skin and long, flowing blonde hair,” she says. “Subconsciously, you start to appreciate those things more than what you possess.”

But now, because of the qualities she has, Lupita is conquering her craft, one award winning movie at a time.

Aside from being recognized for her indisputable beauty, Lupita has also taken on Lancome. She’s the new face of their latest campaign, proving she’s here to stay.

Shell 'warned Nigeria pipeline could leak before spills'

  Oil firm Royal Dutch Shell was told a pipeline had reached the end of its life years before it spilled up to 500,000 barrels of oil, according to court documents seen by the BBC. Two spills in 2008 affected about 35 sq miles (90 sq km) in southern Nigeria, according to a group suing Shell. The area included sensitive mangroves. Shell "dismisses the suggestion that it has knowingly continued to use a pipeline that is not safe to operate," it told the BBC . The emails, letters and internal reports submitted to a court in London show that senior Shell employees were concerned before the spill that Shell's pipelines in the area had reached the end of their lives and needed replacing to avoid danger to lives, the environment and the economy.
