                   President Obama, now facing a Republican-run Senate and a bigger GOP majority in the House, will host a post-election news conference Wednesday afternoon, White House officials said. Obama is scheduled to face reporters at 2:50 p.m. Obama has pledged to work with both parties on middle class economic issues, including his calls for a minimum wage hike and student loan aide. On Tuesday, Obama will likely be asked about his hopes for the lame-duck Congress and foreign policy challenges that include the rise of the Islamic State. As he moves forward, Obama is expected to nominate a new attorney general. On Friday, he is scheduled to meet with leaders of the current, lame duck Congress, which is slated to take up budget issues in a session later this month.  USA TODAY  reports.

                      The former Destinys Child singer welcomed her first child with husband Tim Witherspoon yesterday Nov. 4. He was born at 1.30pm Los Angeles time and has been named Titan Jewell Witherspoon. The couple had this to say, “We are thrilled to announce that today we are the proud parents of our first son. We are blessed to report everyone is healthy and happy!”

                    Aspirants seeking to contest presidential election on the ticket of the United Progressive Party (UPP) in the 2015 are expected to pay the sum of N15 million for nomination forms. The party has also fixed nomination fees for other political offices at N5 million for governorship, N1 million for Senate, N500,000 for the House of Representatives and N200,000 for aspirants interested in running for the state House of Assembly. These were contained in the guidelines and timetable for party congresses/primary elections for all elective offices in the country including the presidential primary election/national convention approved at the party's Tuesday's National Executive Committee (NEC). In a communique issued at the end of its NEC meeting in Abuja, the party said it would hold its presidential convention on December 8. Vangard reports.

                      A presidential aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and founder of Leadership Newspapers, Sam Nda-Isaiah, on Tuesday said he would make the unity of Nigeria a top priority of his administration if elected into office as president next year in order for the country, which has been divided along ethnic lines, to make progress.                         A Mexican mayor characterized as a "probable mastermind" in the mass abduction of 43 students has been taken into custody as authorities have tracked down a top target who eluded them for weeks -- even if they still haven't managed to locate the missing. Iguala Mayor Jose Luis Abarca and his wife, Maria de los Angeles Pineda -- dubbed "the imperial couple" by local media for how they presided over their southern Mexican city -- were detained early Tuesday morning at a house they had rented in Mexico City's Iztapalapa neighborhood.
