S. African President, Zuma vows action on Synagogue’s tragedy

                                         President Jacob Zuma on Thursday vowed his government would do everything it can to help the families of 67 South Africans believed killed in last week’s church collapse in Nigeria. Facing allegations that the South African government’s response to the tragedy was tardy and inadequate, Zuma said he had appointed a ministerial task force to respond. “They will support families and do whatever is necessary to manage the impact of this tragedy,” he said. A multi-storey hotel linked to controversial preacher and televangelist TB Joshua collapsed on Friday, but it was Tuesday before Zuma announced any South African fatalities. Continue...

2015 Elections: PDP Governors Endorse Jonathan as Sole Candidate

                                      The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum on Wednesday endorsed President Goodluck Jonathan as sole candidate of the party ahead of its Dec. 6 presidential primaries for 2015 general elections. This was part of decisions reached at the forum’s meeting in Abuja ahead of the PDP National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting slated for Sept. 18. Chairman of the forum and Governor of Akwa Ibom, Godswill Akpabio, announced the decision at the end of its ‎three hours meeting. The party’s NEC is expected to adopt the resolution of the governors at the meeting. “The PDP governors’ forum hereby endorses President Goodluck Jonathan for a second term in office and resolved to support his bid for re-election come 2015.
