    President Goodluck Jonathan today appointed Mrs. Roli Bode-George, the spouse of Peoples Democratic Party chieftain and ex-convict Bode George, into the sensitive job of Director-General of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).

Younger brother of footballers Yaya and Kolo Toure dies aged 28

                       The younger brother of Premier League and Ivory Coast footballers Yaya and Kolo Toure died yesterday June 19th in the UK. Ibrahim Toure (pictured left), who was also a professional footballer, was just 28 years old. His cause of death has not been made known but he's said to have died just hours after Ivory Coast lost 2-1 to Colombia at the World Cup.

Jennifer Lopez says music has been 'challenging'

                           Jennifer Lopez remembers the days when her record label budgeted $1m for one of her music videos. Today, she's attempting to create the same magic with one-tenth of the money. The entrepreneur says being a singer has been "challenging" since she debuted on the pop scene in the late 1990s, dominating the charts with back-to-back hits while becoming a driving force on other entertainment platforms. "It used to be like this big magical world, almost like Oz, when you'd make a record," the 44-year-old says. "(It) was like anything was possible." Lopez, who released her eighth album, A.K.A., on Tuesday, says the music industry no longer feels like Oz. "Now, it's like, 'We'll see if we can do that and we can give you this much,'" she says of record label meetings. "And you're like, 'Wow, OK. So how am I gonna do that?' Three shortlisted for Wole Soyinka award

                                     Three finalists have been shortlisted for the fifth edition of Africa's most prestigious prize in literature, the Wole Soyinka Prize for Literature in Africa. Organiser of the award and founder of Lumina Foundation, Dr Ogochukwu Promise, announced the shortlisted finalists as Othuke Ominibohs (for the drama, Odufa), Akin Bello (Egbon of Lagos) and Toyin Abiodun (The Trials of Afonja). The three finalists were selected from a group African authors including Soji Cole, Comfort Adesuwa Ero, Isaac Attah Ogezi, Moshood Oba, Mayowa Saja, and Wumi Raji. They were selected from a total of 163 entries submitted from 17 African countries in the genre of drama, which is the focus of the 2014 edition.

Pastor Kumuyi to star in first film

                                         Founder and General Superintendent of the Deeper Life Bible Church, Pastor Kumuyi will star in a new film titled Snare. The movie which has been valued at N270 million is gospel themed movie titled. Snare was created to honor late Nigerian actor and playwright, the late Hubert Adedeji Ogunde. Speaking about the movie, David Adekunle Ogunde said; Snare is actually based on a couple, particularly one gentleman, an African who is brilliant, who is lured because of the flaw in his character, even though he wants to change the society.He looks at the society as poor and also full of diseases and sicknesses, so he decided that he wanted to change that. But he has a flaw in his character and that flaw is greed, the love of money. Snare, was shot with world-class actors; both Nigerian and international actors such as Branston Cosby, Steven Baldwin and Phil Tan Carl Cameron amongst others.

                           Rapper and producer Jesse Jagz will hold a second installment of his musical concert tagged The Jesse Jagz Experience 2014. This year’s edition is restricted to a limited number of fans so if you’re a fan or a lover of great music, you definitely want to be among the lucky 300. This year, is themed “The Greatest Concert” and features Jesse Jagz’s 16-man hip-hop orchestra, will entertain about 300 audience expected, along side other musicians.

New LASU fees approved

                    The School Governing Council of the Lagos State University has approved a new fee structure for students following the decision by Government to reduce fees by 60 percent. The school council has reduced the fees by more than 49 percent. “In view of this development, the Management has now directed that all students of the University (Full-Time, Part-Time and Postgraduate) are to resume for the session on Monday, June 23, 2014 to commence the payment of school fees/ registration for the 2013/2014 academic session," management wrote in a release. The statement enjoined students to be law- abiding and to go about their academic activities without fear of any molestation. It would be recalled that the Management directed all Students of the University to proceed on recess with immediate effect. The University management reiterated that the rescheduled fee is not applicable to students at 400 level and above. Students of the institution had taken to the street

Wizkid who has been releasing photos on Instagram with famous American musicians like Justin Beiber, Big Sean, Wale, Chris Brown, Akon, Tyrese and singer/song writer Ty Dolla $ign, also confirmed that some of these artists will be on his albums.
