40 Killed As Two Explosions Rock Kaduna

Image
Two explosions have ripped through the city of Kaduna killing at least 40 people, the Police says. The first explosion was said to have targeted Islamic cleric, Dahiru Bauchi while the second one targeted senior opposition leader, Muhammadu Buhari. The witness, Hassan Mohammed, told newsmen that the bomb, concealed in a red Volkswagen golf car parked by the road side, was detonated as the cleric’s convoy drove past. The sheikh escaped unhurt, the witness said. “As I speak to you now, I can see many bodies on the ground,” Mr. Mohammed said. The police could not be immediately reached but the witness said security and emergency officials have arrived at the scene evacuating the victims of the blast. The blast is the second targeting Mr. Bauchi in Kaduna State. In June, an explosion occurred near his house, injuring one person. The Sheikh is a known critic of the extremist Boko Haram sect. It is however not clear whether the group is responsible for the a

The first bodies of those killed in the MH17 massacre have left Ukraine on a cargo plane that will transport them to the Netherlands. The remains of around 200 international victims of the Malaysia Airlines tragedy have already been moved by train from the rebel-held city of Donetsk in eastern Ukraine to government-controlled Kharkiv, and will now be flown to Eindhoven to carry out an identification process which could take months.
