USA Celebrates Independence Day Today

In 1776, Richard Henry Lee, who was born in Virginia but schooled in England, proposed that the 13 American colonies should declare their independence from Britain.
The City of Rochester will once again host several Fourth of July celebration events, building up to the annual fireworks show downtown. The Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra will kick things off at 7:30 pm with a concert on the Main Street Bridge, featuring guest conductor Michael Berkowitz.
The fireworks show will start at 10 p.m. Other places to check out fireworks tonight include Brighton, Canandaigua, Chili, Greece, Henrietta, and Penfield just to name a few.
If you are not able to head out this evening to see the fireworks, Time Warner Cable News has you covered. We'll continue our tradition of bringing you the downtown fireworks live beginning at 10 pm.
Government offices are closed Friday to observe Independence Day. That includes local, state and federal offices and courts. Libraries are also closed.
In most places garbage and recycling pickup is delayed by one day. There's also no mail delivery for the holiday.
